Oct 14, 2026 • 2 min read Gorkha Flood-Situation Bulletin 02 (14 October 2026) Situation Overview: A flash flood in the Budhi Gandaki River during the early hours of 11 October 2026 caused significant damage across the Manaslu and Tsum Valley regions of Gorkha District. The flood resulted in damage to houses, temporary shelters, suspension bridges, roads, and other critical infrastructure, including the loss of the under-construction Sahaj Urja Powerhouse. Major transportation disruptions occurred after the washing away of the Soti steel bridge and part of the Nayapul bridge, significantly affecting access to the impacted areas. Government authorities issued early warning messages and safety advisories for communities living along the Budhi Gandaki and downstream Trishuli river corridors, while search and rescue operations, evacuation support continue despite challenges posed by damaged roads and communication disruptions. According to the Initial Rapid Assessment (IRA), a total of 174 households has been identified as affected, including 35 households in Chumnubri Rural Municipality, 57 households in Dharche Rural Municipality, 24 households in Aarughat Rural Municipality, and 58 households in Tripurasundari Rural Municipality. In response, national, provincial, and district authorities activated emergency response mechanisms, mobilized security personnel and air rescue assets, and continued to coordinate relief and assessment efforts to address the humanitarian needs of affected communities. Sep 28, 2026 • 2 min read Monsoon Update, Situation Report of 27 September 2026 Situation Overview: Continuous rainfall since 24 September, driven by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, has triggered floods, landslides, inundation, and avalanche incidents across Gandaki, Lumbini, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces. Prior to the event, DHM warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall between 24 and 28 September and highlighted risks of flash floods, landslides, waterlogging, and service disruptions. Authorities implemented preparedness measures, including restrictions on night-time travel, relocation of at-risk households, and suspension of trekking activities in high-altitude areas. As of 27 September, preliminary reports indicate 19 disaster incidents (10 floods, 8 landslides, and 1 avalanche), resulting in 15 deaths, 4 injuries, and 10 missing persons. Landslides in Lamjung, Baglung, Myagdi, Palpa, and Dhanusha districts caused the majority of fatalities. A total of 412 houses were fully damaged, while flooding affected an estimated 849 households, particularly in Nawalparasi West, Chitwan, Nawalpur East, Parbat, and Syangja districts. Significant damage to homes, infrastructure, agricultural land, and community assets has also been reported, while an avalanche at Himlung Base Camp in Manang temporarily stranded 10 people. The ongoing impacts have severely disrupted transportation, with landslides, erosion, and flooding causing partial or complete blockages along major road corridors, including the Prithvi, BP, Araniko, Pasang Lhamu, Siddhartha, and Mid-Hill highways, as well as the Narayangadh-Mugling road. While rainfall has eased in eastern and central provinces, the weather system has shifted westward, maintaining the risk of flash floods and river surges in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Search and rescue operations, evacuations, and other response efforts continue, although weather conditions are expected to improve from 28 September as the low-pressure system gradually weakens. Oct 02, 2026 • 2 min read Monsoon Update - Situation Update 2 (1 October 2026) Situation Overview Continuous rainfall from 24 to 27 September 2026, associated with a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, triggered widespread floods, landslides, inundation, and related disaster incidents across Gandaki, Lumbini, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces. Ahead of the event, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) issued forecasts warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and the potential for flash floods, landslides, waterlogging, and disruptions to essential services. According to the latest situation update, 30 people lost their lives, 15 were injured, and 3 remain missing as a result of the rainfall-induced disasters. The impact on communities has been significant, with 1,923 families directly affected, 234 houses completely destroyed, and 150 houses sustaining partial damage. (Data source: NDRRMA Sitrep) The heavy rainfall also caused extensive disruptions to transportation and connectivity. Flooding, erosion, and landslides led to partial or complete obstructions along several major highways and strategic road corridors, including Prithvi, BP, Araniko, Pasang Lhamu, Siddhartha, Mid- Hill, and Narayangadh-Mugling ro ads. Although rainfall has gradually decreased in eastern and central Nepal, the weather system shifted westward, maintaining the risk of flash floods and rising river levels in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Search and rescue operations, evacuations, and damage assessments continue, while improving weather conditions are expected to support ongoing response and recovery efforts. Read

Oct 12, 2026 • 3 min read Gorkha Flood, Situation bulletin-1 (11 October 2026) Situation Overview: A flash flood in the Budhi Gandaki River early Sunday morning on 11 October 2026 caused significant damage across the Manaslu and Tsum Valley regions of Gorkha District. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 50 households were affected, with several houses washed away, communities displaced, and critical infrastructure damaged. No human casualties have been reported so far. The flood is believed to have been triggered by a landslide-induced river blockage that subsequently breached, releasing a large volume of water downstream. Major impacts include the destruction of suspension bridges in Chumnubri and Dharche, damage to houses and temporary shelters, the loss of the under-construction Sahaj Urja Powerhouse, and severe disruption to road connectivity after the Soti steel bridge and part of the Nayapul bridge were washed away. Detailed assessments and response efforts are ongoing, although access remains challenging due to damaged roads and communication disruptions. Government authorities issued early warning messages and public safety advisories, urging communities living along the Budhi Gandaki and downstream Trishuli river corridors in Gorkha, Dhading, Tanahun, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi districts to remain vigilant, move to safer locations where necessary, avoid high-risk riverine areas, and follow the instructions of relevant authorities. Search and rescue operations, along with detailed damage assessments, are ongoing, although response efforts continue to face challenges due to damaged roads and communication disruptions. A level meeting was convened by NDRRMA with participation of relevant agencies and were requested to review the situation, assess damages and provide necessary coordination and directives for response. Response efforts include the deployment of 503 security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force; mobilization of four Army helicopters for search and rescue; 82 people rescued to safe place; dissemination of early warning messages to downstream communities; and activation of emergency response mechanisms at national, provincial, and district levels. Rasuwa Flood Situation Update (26 August 2026) Aug 27, 2026 • 2 min read Situation Overview: A major flash flood struck Rasuwa district after a sudden and intense surge of water entered the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibet (China) side at approximately 9:15 AM. The flood rapidly impacted the Timure, Rasuwagadhi, and Syabrubesi areas, causing significant damage to settlements, markets, police infrastructure, roads, and hydropower facilities. Authorities have warned that rising water levels could affect downstream communities along the Trishuli River corridor. Preliminary assessments and discussions with scientists from Nepal and China suggest that an ice avalanche may have blocked the Lhende River upstream, triggering a sudden outburst flood. A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was also recorded at 08:37 AM (USGS) prior to the event. While the exact cause remains under investigation, the incident is currently suspected to be a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) or related high-altitude outburst event. The flood is suspected to have originated from a high-altitude outburst event upstream in Tibet, although the exact cause remains under investigation. Water levels rose rapidly, with flood waves estimated at 8-10 meters in some locations, resulting in widespread destruction. Authorities have reported severe damage to Timure Market, the Timure Customs Office, the Rasuwagadhi area, and the Syabrubesi settlement. Significant impacts have also been recorded on critical infrastructure, including multiple hydropower projects, notably the Chilime Hydropower Project. In addition, three Nepal Police facilities, namely the Timure Area Police Office, Rasuwagadhi Police Post, and Syabrubesi Police Post, have sustained substantial damage.
